Leatherman was founded in 1983 by Tim Leatherman in Portland, Oregon, after he developed a folding multi-tool inspired by problems he encountered while traveling. His first design, the Leatherman PST (Pocket Survival Tool), became an instant success and set the standard for modern multi-tools.
